Are Height-Increasing Shoes Comfortable? What to Expect
Comfort starts with the right fit. Learn what to check for toe room, heel hold and walking comfort before choosing your first pair of elevator sneakers.
Height-increasing shoes can be comfortable when the size and shape suit your feet. The height boost is one part of the design. Toe room, heel hold, cushioning and the way you walk in the complete shoe all matter.
If you are considering your first pair, a few simple fit checks can help you decide. Here is what to expect from elevator sneakers and how to choose a pair for your everyday routine.
What makes an elevator sneaker feel different?
Elevator sneakers contain a height-boosting layer inside the shoe. Kosen builds the lift into its construction and uses foam cushioning alongside it. Our Mercury White and Mercury Black sneakers each offer a listed 2-inch height boost.
The position of your foot may feel different from your usual sneakers, particularly if you have never worn an internal lift. That difference does not tell you whether the fit is right. Judge the complete shoe by how secure and comfortable it feels while standing and walking.

Four checks for a comfortable fit
Try both shoes with the socks you normally plan to wear. Lace them securely without pulling them overly tight, then stand and take a short walk on a clean indoor surface.
- Check your toe room. Your toes should have space without feeling squeezed together or pressed against the front. Notice the width as well as the length.
- Check your heel hold. Your heel should feel secure while walking. If it repeatedly slips out or feels crowded against the back of the shoe, reassess the fit.
- Check for pressure. Pay attention to the top and sides of your foot. Adjust the laces if needed, but do not use tight lacing to compensate for a shoe that feels too loose.
- Check your normal walk. Take a few turns at your usual pace. You should feel comfortable moving naturally, without shortening your stride to keep the shoes on or avoid a pressure point.

Choose the size for the model
Start with the size guidance on the product page for the exact model you want. Do not automatically buy a larger size simply because the shoes include a lift, or assume every model has an identical fit.
The Mercury size guide lists insole measurements. Those measurements are not the same as your exact foot length, so read the accompanying guidance before choosing. You can find the guide on the Mercury product page.
If you are unsure, contact Kosen before ordering and explain your usual size and any specific fit concern, such as a narrow heel or pressure across the toes. A clear description is more useful than choosing a size only from the height boost.
What should you expect on the first wear?
Begin with a short indoor try-on so you can assess the fit and keep the shoes in their original condition. Notice how they feel after moving around, rather than deciding from a seated try-on alone.
There is no universal adjustment period that works for every wearer. An unfamiliar feeling can be a reason to take your time, but pinching, rubbing or pain should not be treated as something you must push through. Stop and reassess the fit.
Can you wear them throughout the day?
That depends on the pair, your feet and what your day involves. A comfortable try-on is a useful first step, but it cannot promise the same experience over many hours.
Think about the settings you have in mind: a casual office, an evening out or a weekend with friends. Choose footwear around both your plans and the amount of walking involved. Your own experience is a better guide than a blanket promise of all-day comfort.
What about adding another insole?
An extra insert changes the space inside a shoe and may affect heel hold or pressure. Do not assume that stacking another lift, removing an existing layer or adding an orthotic will preserve the fit.
If you use prescribed orthotics, ask the professional who prescribed them about suitable footwear and check compatibility with Kosen before ordering. Our elevator shoes and separate insoles comparison explains why the complete fit matters.
